Brief description of the project

The environmental poster campaign for May 4 offers a new approach to expressing the significance of the celebration by using graphic musical notation, which has not previously been employed in visual communication. The campaign, based on the symbolism of the «Singing Revolution,» incorporates fragments of songs associated with the Awakening period and the restoration of independence, such as the national anthem, «The Song with Which You Will Begin,» «The Green Song,» and «Sun, Thunder, Daugava.» Musical notation as a visual element not only surprises with its originality but also emphasizes the importance of music in Latvian culture. The poster design takes into account the characteristics of the urban environment, such as cylindrical and elongated stands, allowing the song motifs to «weave» through the city. This creative and unconventional solution not only attracts attention but also promotes public understanding of national values and Latvia’s cultural heritage.
