Brief description of the project

The international art exhibition Decolonial Ecologies explores the complex entanglements of postcolonial and postsocialist imprints in contemporary society and culture through the prism of environmental history and environmental changes. The central guiding concept of the exhibition's scenography is applying principles of sustainability in the construction of the short-term exhibition — it uses existing resources or materials that can be returned to their circulation cycle after the exhibition. The exhibition space and its contextual framework are organised by brick squares regularly arranged on the ground. These are the rejected products of the Lode factory — bricks that normally would be crushed. The vertical structures are formed by modular steel frames, which usually serve as a substructure for partition walls and were already at the disposal of the Riga Art Space. Left partially unfinished, they reveal rust spots and massive screws that are usually hidden from view.
