On 30 May 2025, the final jury and key events of The National Design Award of Latvia 2025 (NDAL) were announced. The programme will culminate with the awards ceremony, where the winners will be revealed, taking place on 5 June 2025 at 19:00 at Sporta iela 2A, Riga. The final jury will decide the winners in five competition categories — Products, Services, Communication, Environment, and Digital Solutions — as well as the recipients of the Young Designer Award and the Grand Prix. The main prize winner of NDAL will receive a monetary award of EUR 2000 from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
In the winter and autumn application sessions of The National Design Award of Latvia 2025, a total of 128 entries were submitted. From these, the selection jury nominated 59 projects to advance to the next round of the competition. The nominated works can be viewed on the website www.dizainabalva.lvOn 30 May 2025, the second round of the competition began, during which the final jury will evaluate the nominees and select the finalists.
The finalists will be announced at a public event on June 3, 2025, at 15:00 at the Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine. The announcement will be followed by presentations from the final jury members, sharing their professional insights. On June 4, 2025, from 15:00 to 19:00, the jury will evaluate the finalist works through in-person presentations. Afterwards, the jury will deliberate to determine the winners in each category, the recipient of the “Emerging Designer” award, and Grand Prix the Grand Prix winner, who will be selected from among the category winners. The competition will conclude with an awards ceremony on June 5, 2025, at 19:00 at Sporta iela 2A (entrance from the “Sporta 2” quarter), Riga. Two special prizes will also be presented — one from the Patent Office and one from JCDecaux.
Everyone is invited to attend the Latvian Design Award 2025 final events, which offer a unique opportunity to meet the jury experts in person, hear their presentations on current topics in design, watch the public presentations by the finalists, ask questions, and discuss areas of interest.
The Jury for the National Design Award of Latvia 2025 Final
The final jury will consist of five experienced design professionals. Alongside Latvian representatives, the works will also be evaluated by two international guests representing different fields of design.
André Poulheim
A German designer who founded the design studio Noto in Cologne in 2001, specializing in the creation of meaningful products. His motto is to create experiences, not just objects. The studio collaborates with global brands and bold startups across Europe, Asia, and North America, offering exciting ideas and precision in details. The studio’s work has received numerous prestigious awards, including the «Red Dot», «iF Design Award» and «German Design Award».
Julius Seniūnas
A Lithuanian architect and designer, co-founder of the architecture and design studio «Praktika» (formerly «Acid»), working on both public and private projects. He created the pavilion «Atlas» for the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, which hosted an exhibition about the city 200 years ago. Julius has developed visual identities for several important cultural initiatives, including the Lithuanian National Architecture Institute, the Science Island in Kaunas, and the Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022 project.
Maija Rozenfelde
Partner and Design Director at «KID Design» and Associate Professor at the Art Academy of Latvia, where she also heads the Department of Graphic Design. Maija is passionate about delving into different industries, searching for authentic solutions with the curiosity of a beginner. Her most notable recent projects have been developed with brands such as «Stenders» and «Laima», the National History Museum of Latvia, and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. Her designs have received awards such as the«Red Dot», «Print Awards» un «Art Directors Club Europe», as well as the Grand Prix of the National Design Award of Latvia 2020.
Reinis Leo Miķelsons
Designer and architect, co-founder of the design studio«Gateris Works». He has previously gained experience at the architecture firm «SZK» and interior design studio «Annvil». Reinis has designed interiors for high-rise buildings and cultural venues, including work on the «Zunda Towers» project, leading the development of the «Zuzeum» art center’s interior, and delivering various hotel and restaurant projects in Norway. In parallel with commercial work, together with graphic designer Eva Abduļina, he explores contemporary interpretations of Latvian forms in everyday objects.
Ilze Grava
Experienced professional in the field of intellectual property and international cooperation. Currently, Ilze heads the Development and International Cooperation Department at the Latvian Patent Office, where she is responsible for strategic development, communication, international cooperation and awareness raising on intellectual property matters, including design protection. In 2024, Ilze led the Latvian Patent Office’s team that participated in the organization of the European Union Intellectual Property Office's DesignEuropa Awards ceremony in Riga. She is also a member of the Latvian Design Council.

The National Design Award of Latvia is the highest recognition in the field of design in Latvia. Its purpose is to identify, evaluate, and promote the achievements of Latvian designers, as well as to encourage the use of Latvian-created design and foster the development of the design industry. The award was established in 2017 with the support of the Ministry of Culture. Until June 2025, it is organized by the Latvian Design Centre.
